BROOM TREE CAFÉ

Located in the heart of downtown Lacombe
The Broom Tree Café supports the dynamic needs of our community.

BUILDING EMPLOYMENT SKILLS

Work experience is and always has been one of the most important facets of learning and growth. We have a café that will not only aim to hire women already associated with the Foundation and its programs to financially help them and give them experience. Whether it is cooking, cleaning, barista, or management, the café will have the ability to be a starting point.

FOCUSING ON SUSTAINABILITY

Our café will also serve our foundation by investing all our revenue and profits back into our foundation, ultimately benefiting the community as a whole.

What is a social enterprise?

A social enterprise or social business is defined as a business with specific social objectives that serve its primary purpose. Social enterprises seek to maximize profits while maximizing benefits to society and the environment, and the profits are principally used to fund social programs. We aim to offer a compassionate business model dedicated to driving social impact through business activities. We empower people who have been excluded from work opportunities for various reasons; learning disabilities, homelessness, criminal records and those who have struggled with substance abuse. People with such barriers are so often excluded from mainstream institutions or systems. We desire to close that gap through our various initiatives.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • A social enterprise is a business with social objectives.

  • Maximizing profits is not the primary goal of a social enterprise as is with a traditional business.

  • Unlike a charity, social enterprises pursue endeavors that generate revenues, which fund their social causes.

  • Regarding employment, preference is given to job-seekers from at-risk communities.

  • Funding for a social enterprise is often obtained by selling services and goods.
